Measure Once, Order Right: Your Guide to Supply-Only Balustrade Planning
The single most important step when ordering a supply-only glass balustrade is accurate measurement. Getting it right ensures a perfect fit, saves you time, and avoids costly delays. Here is your quick guide to planning like a professional:
1. Define Your System Type
Before you measure, decide on your system:
Frameless (Spigots/Stand-offs): Measurements typically dictate the overall length and height of the glass panels themselves, with allowance for small gaps between panels and at the wall.
Semi-Frameless (Posts): Measurements determine the centre-to-centre distance of your posts. The glass panels will then be sized to fit between these fixed posts.
2. Take Two Measurements, Not One
Never rely on a single measurement. Use a reliable steel tape measure and take the length in the intended run at:
The Top: Measure the total length where the top of the balustrade will be.
The Bottom: Measure the total length along the base or floor where the fixings will sit.
Always use the shorter of the two measurements to prevent the panels from being too long and not fitting.
3. Account for Hardware
You must factor in the dimensions of your chosen hardware:
Gaps: Allow a small, consistent gap (usually 5mm to 10mm) between panels and where the glass meets a wall or post. This allows for thermal expansion and makes installation easier.
Fixing Points: Know the size and footprint of your spigots or posts to ensure the glass is correctly centred and supported.
